Women Speak on Life, Health, Family and Finance

Help for Women Aging

Why WomenSpeak.com?

Because who wouldn’t like to feel great about getting older?

But the truth is, in our youth-oriented society, many of us don’t feel good about it at all, and we’re scared to admit it! Sure, we try to accentuate the positive, but before we can adopt positive upbeat lifestyles, we have to admit and face our fears. And there’s nothing like talking with girlfriends to make a woman feel a lot better.

At last, here is a website – Womenspeak.Com – where we can let down our guard and admit – even to ourselves – that we have concerns. You can hear about the myriad ways other women have learned to be courageous about living and loving longer.

  • Speak up and read what others say
  • Resources on aging, health, money matters, and relationship issues
  • Read sections from the book-in-progress by psychologist Dr. Nancy D. O'Reilly: YOU CAN'T SCARE ME!! Courageous WomenSpeak About Growing Older in a Youth-Oriented Society

“I am surprised at the number of younger women I talk with who think ‘women have it made,’ says Dr. Nancy. “Are we on the same planet? They don’t believe the stories of what we went through. They don’t understand that once we pass childbearing age, women too often feel dismissed by physicians, employers, even society at large. Our concerns are ignored, and we turn this rejection inward by deciding we must be losing our minds. We reject ourselves by denying our right to be concerned about our own health, and instead focus on the needs of others.”

Writing about her research with more than 1,000 women, Dr. O’Reilly says she is still running with her "I am woman hear me roar" banner.

A comment from one of our visitors:

The website is great, with lots of interesting links. I initially found it when I was looking for a woman psychologist for my daughter. I took the survey because it sounded as if I might have something to add. I guess I do worry about aging, but mostly the not being able to do as much stuff physically as I used to. In some ways, I'm healthier and stronger, but other ways I'm not. I keep choosing activities that exacerbate my neck and back! (i.e. writing, playing a harp, making jewelry, cooking...) I go back and forth on nutrition, too. I still need to lose weight.Cheryl
