Supreme Court to Review WalMart Sex Discrimination Suit
Ten years into the battle, the Supreme Court will weigh in on whether WalMart’s women employees have a right to band together in the largest class action suit in history, involving as many as 1.5 million female workers and former workers at WalMart and Sam’s Club stores.
The Ninth Circuit Court had concluded that there was significant evidence of company?wide pay and promotion discrimination. The evidence also showed that WalMart lagged far behind its competitors in its promotion of women and long knew of the discrimination against its female employees but failed to act. It is the largest civil rights class action in history, and WalMart has lost the class action issue four times in lower court rulings.
