  • Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening
  • Change in breast size or shape

What are the traditional signs of stroke?

  • Sudden onset of weakness or numbness on one side of the body
  • Difficulty speaking or understanding
  • Facial drooping
  • Clumsiness or inability to walk

Women with stroke are also more likely than men to report:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath

Three ways to tell if someone may have had a stroke:

  • Ask them to lift both arms and hold them up
  • Ask them to speak a simple sentence coherently

If they have difficulty with any one task, call 9-1-1 and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
