Empowering Stories Transform Our Lives

Inspired Storyteller
M. Bridget Cook-Burch

Bridget Cook-Burch is an extraordinary storyteller who helps other people tell their stories of hope and transformation. Her own near-death experience opened her heart to the fullness of unconditional love and birthed her ability to see it in others. As a result, when she worked with gangs connected by committing the most violent acts, she was able to see their stories in hopeful possibilities. Her first book, Skinhead Confessions: From Hate to Hope told one of their stories.
Today, Bridget has co-authored three books, the most recent of which is the Rebecca Musser story, The Witness Wore Red: The 19th Wife of Who Brought Polygamous Cult Leaders to Justice, which opened the eyes of people in the US of the human trafficking that is going on right under our noses. Rebecca’s story is so powerful, the book reached the NY Times Bestseller list twice.

“Transforming the Stories We Tell Ourselves As Women”

leading-women-cover-150Bridget’s mission is to help others tell their stories. In the book, Leading Women, 20 Influential Women Share Their Secrets to Leadership, Business and Life, Bridget’s chapter, “Transforming the Stories We Tell Ourselves As Women” talks about transformational stories, including one of her own where she discovered that she had to rewrite her story to see the possibilities of pursuing her passion in life and move beyond her self-limiting story.
In this interview she paraphrased Ernest Hemingway, saying, “There is nothing to writing. All you do is lay out the paper and bleed.” She explained that you have to reach a place of vulnerability before you can open up to tell your story. She believes that everyone has the gift of storytelling; it is her mission to listen and guide them through it. In addition to co-authoring books, she founded her company, Inspired Legacy, LLC, and hosts Inspired Writer’s Retreats in beautiful remote locations to help people open up to share their stories.

Empower Yourself with Celebration

Dr. Nancy and Bridget discuss the empowerment of celebrating the good things about ourselves instead of comparing ourselves to others. The old belief systems, guided by media messages, tell us we’re not enough and fill our minds with, “I’m not pretty enough; I’m too hold to do that; I’m too fat to do that or I’d look silly doing that.” The not-enough messages are designed to coax us to buy a product, so we will feel better about ourselves. That’s the old story. Bridget agrees that the more women come together to celebrate, the more we can help each other and change the world
