Advocate for Themselves
Timeless Women Advocate for Themselves
What if you went to the doctor and were told that you had a rare, malignant lymphoma? Then you were given the choice: get chemotherapy or die. Would you do it or would you question the diagnosis?
That’s what happened to Trisha Torrey. Amidst feelings of confusion and grief, she asked for a second opinion and found that she had another option—live. But she didn’t just get on with her life, she used her experience to empower others.
Today, Trisha is on a mission to empower people to become their own patient advocates. She founded a website, DiagKNOWsis.com; she blogs and has a radio show. In fact, she uses every vehicle she can to help people turn our “medical care system” into a “health care system” for the pursuit of health instead of wealth.
Now she has written a book called, You Bet Your Life: 10 Mistakes Every Patient Makes. Dr. Nancy and Trisha talk about her book, her story and her efforts as “Every Patient’s Advocate.”
Learn the attitudes you need to develop to advocate for yourself.
